Public seating has been one of the most frequent suggestions from the community, shared through our village suggestion boxes. In response, we mapped out existing seats around Te Kamo (marked in red on the map) and began planning new locations that would best support locals and visitors. The aim is to make the village more welcoming and accessible, with simple places to stop, meet, or eat lunch.
NO 1. WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE PICNIC TABLE – TE KAMO WAR MEMORIAL HALL
Our first picnic table was installed outside the Te Kamo War Memorial Hall and has been well used. It showed us how even small additions can make a big difference in how people use public space.

This table was achieved through generous support from
Ray White “We Can Help With That”
Grassroots Trust
Kamo Club
Coastal Accounting
B Star & R Marsh
North End Contractors
Kamo Unichem
Kamo Dairy & Lotto
Whangarei District Council
Citycare Property
NO 2. WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE PICNIC TABLE – KAMO HOTEL
A second table has now been completed and installed on Kamo Road by the Kamo Hotel, another wheelchair-accessible design, installed on a small grass section on Kamo Road, where it is the only public picnic table in the village center, for people to sit and enjoy a meal.
This installation was made possible
with support from
Kamo Hotel (for use of the land)
and
Whangarei District Council
(for gifting the table to the community)

The project is ongoing, with the next possible location being near the new planter boxes. We’re always open to community suggestions on where more seating could be useful.
For those of you that regularly walk around the village, we need your help to determine locations where more seating will be useful.
