We’re excited to share our plans for the Te Kamo community with you.
We’re creating a flexible document called the Te Kamo Concept Plan, which will cover the next 10 years. This plan isn’t set in stone and can be updated as needed. It’s going to paint a picture of Te Kamo’s future, including short-term and long-term projects and how we’ll make them happen. We want this plan to inspire and guide us.
To put this plan together, we’ve set up a timeline, starting with defining what it is and does. We’re also reaching out to the community in various ways,, like through our website, social media, surveys, displays in the village, and Te Kamo Connect articles. We want your input, whether it’s your thoughts on what you love about Te Kamo or project ideas that would benefit you or a local organization you may be a part of. And if you know others who want to be part of this process, we welcome them too.
We’ve created an online questionnaire to help us gather your vision for Te Kamo. You can find it here (at the bottom of this page)
You may have noticed that we’ve started our community consultation process. This is a crucial first step and will be the foundation for the Te Kamo Concept Plan. This plan will be our roadmap for future projects, aligning with the feedback and aspirations we’ve collected from our community.
We’ve kicked things off by posting themed questions on our Facebook page to get you thinking about what’s working well, what needs improvement, and how we can make Te Kamo even better.
If you’d like to get involved, here are several ways:
- Suggestion Boxes: We’ve had these in the community for a year, and we’re recording all your suggestions to identify the most wanted projects.
- Add Your Comments: Share your thoughts on the Kamo Community Inc / Te Kamo Connect Facebook page. We’re posting questions about various aspects of Te Kamo.
- Complete a Full Questionnaire at the bottom of this page.
- Drop-in Sessions: We’re planning sessions where you can learn about our plans, share your opinions and ideas, and find out how to get involved. We’ll advertise these on Facebook, our website, and the library noticeboard.
After our first drop-in session in mid-November, we’ll present the findings to the Whangarei District Council, focusing on key projects that have emerged. We hope these projects will be considered for the Long-Term Plan.
But this is just one part of the puzzle. Our goal with this plan is to unite our community to solve problems, create the improvements we all want, and empower everyone to make things happen together. It’s a big project that requires teamwork and cooperation.
Some ideas that have already come up include improving walkability, creating a village hub, addressing traffic and safety concerns, and renovating historic sites. There are many more ideas in the pipeline, and we’ll keep you updated as we make progress with the plan. If you want to get involved, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
